Hallmarking may finally be mandatory...

The Indian cabinet is considering a proposal to bring the Jewellery Industry under the scheduled Industry list, resulting in mandatory hallmarking of all precious metal jewelery retailed in the country. This will be an important move considering the huge losses Indian consumers suffer due to non- hallmarking. A survey by BIS in 2007 found 88% of non-halmarked jewellery sold to consumers had an average of 11% less purity as claimed. Read more here

Until now the hallmarking was voluntary and only a few jewellers(including us) adopted it completely. Another few only kept some of the items hallmarked to make an interesting marketing ploy while rest of the jewellery were non hallmarked. Whereas the majority jeweller community still continues to sell non-hallmarked jewellery resulting in huge losses to consumers.

This new development if passes through the (com)motions of our parliament would be a real boon to consumers.

Continuing with our promise of providing you with exceptional choices in diamond rings in general and engagement ring ideas in particular. We are really excited to have partnered with Platinum Guild International(PGI) to introduce a whole range of platinum bands and rings.

Platinum as many may know is a whole notch above in prices and 30 times rarer than gold. This makes platinum jewellery aspirational. Platinum is a naturally white metal (unlike white gold...which is originally yellow and mixed with an alloy to make it white) and matches with current trend as anything yellow looks blingy.

New! Ergonomical Engagement Ring mountings

Well starting off this new year on something new to our store and hopefully for a lot of our readers. We introduce ring mountings which are ergonomical and fits snuggly in the palm of your hands when closed as a fist. Most traditional ring designs are round and are comfortable enough but in some designs like for e.g. in a thick gold band style( like the one in poster above) it isn't as comfortable anymore on the side which is enclosed in the palm. This new design sure takes care of that. Take a look at these at our store.

New Year Wishes and Resolutions

Wishing all the blog readers of "Sone Pe Suhaga" a very Happy and Prosperous New Year from the Kathana Team. We know we are a little late as we are well into the new year.

Anyways this is that the time of the year when we make new resolutions personally and professionally. Well we have made one too. Our new year resolution is to introduce more and more International style jewellery for our customers. A case in point is what you see in the poster below.
